Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 05, 2014
The recently released 2014 hurricane season forecast from the experts at Colorado State University predicts a slower season than normal. While this is good news for those frequently in the path of these dangerous storms, it’s better to be safe than sorry. All it takes is one whopper of a storm to cause significant property damage.
“We’re always hopeful for a quiet hurricane season,” said Tom Riscili, President & CEO of CGI Windows & Doors, “but it never hurts to be prepared. The reality is, windows are one of the most vulnerable areas of the house envelope and the first to give in to strong winds. Use this expected quieter season to make much-needed changes and upgrades to your home. That way, when a storm does hit, you and your home are as safe as possible.”
Learn From the Past
Hurricane Andrew was one of the most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history. The August 1992 behemoth brought sustained winds of 165 mph, with gusts reaching 177 mph. More than 25,000 homes were destroyed and upwards of 100,000 were damaged – primarily as a result of wind damage. The storm decimated south Florida and resulted in the launch of stronger building codes across the region, and the country.
Start with Strength
Following Andrew, the Miami-Dade County building codes were developed and put into place. Recognized as the most stringent building codes in the country, these parameters quickly became the benchmark for impact-resistant products.
Established in 1992, CGI Windows and Doors was the first manufacturer of hurricane windows and doors to offer laminated glass that met Miami-Dade County impact standards. Today, every window and door in the CGI product portfolio meets – and exceeds – Miami-Dade standards.
“We offer some of the strongest windows on the market,” continued Riscili. “All CGI windows are large missile impacted and then cycled to a high level of design pressure (measured in pounds per square foot, PSF). What this means to the homeowner: strong wind speeds equal high pressure, so the higher the design pressure of a window, the better protection it is has against high-velocity damage scenarios.”
Rest Assured with Quality
How to choose between impact window brands? If all safety standards on the table are equal, fall back on quality.
CGI products have been designed and manufactured to resist the toughest hurricanes. But product quality goes a step beyond that: down to the smallest detail, each CGI product stands above the rest. Performance matters, but so do aesthetics: CGI products look and feel stronger, beefier than other options. This is because both aluminum and vinyl extrusions used in manufacturing are stronger and heavier. A strong, solid window – in both look and performance – is the best defense against the worst nature has to offer.
